EVERY DAY COUNTS
If you want your child to be successful in school, attendance matters!
Please call the school office during office hours to excuse your child's absence. Absences must be excused before or at the time of
absence. We are unable to excuse an absence once the child returns to school. If you are unsure whether or not you should send your child to school, please see the Health Guidance below.Elementary Schools & COIL
Attendance is taken twice per day- AM and PM. Parents are notified daily beginning at 10:55 AM by phone and email of any unexcused absences or unexcused tardies during the AM.
Middle Schools
Attendance is taken in each class period. Parents are notified twice daily by phone and email of any unexcused absences or unexcused tardies. Notification is sent for first period beginning at 10:55 AM and for the remaining periods beginning at 3:55 PM.
Importance of Regular Attendance
The Casa Grande Elementary School District wants to ensure that all students fully benefit from their education by attending school regularly. Regular attendance in school helps children feel better about school and themselves. Consistent attendance helps set the habits necessary for success in school and in future careers. Children attending 96% or more of the school year are more likely to learn to read and graduate from high school. This means missing 6 or fewer days of school during the school year in CGESD.
Missing 10% or more of the school year, 15 school days, is considered Chronically Absent. Missing 5 or more days unexcused is considered Habitually Truant.
By being present at school, your child learns valuable social skills and has the opportunity to develop meaningful relationships with other students and school staff.

TruancyState law mandates that the school record all reasons for all student absences. When a student is absent, a parent must call the school on or before the day of absence in order to advise the school as to the reason for the absence. All absences not verified will remain unexcused. For absences greater than one day in length, the school should be notified each day of the absence.Unauthorized absence from school is considered truancy and will be treated as such. After 5 unexcused absences, the principal will send a letter to the address on record warning the parent/guardian of possible disciplinary proceedings if student absences continue. The parent/guardian may be issued a citation for violation of Arizona Revised Statute A.R. S. 15-802 if unexcused student absences total more than 10 days during the school year.
There are many individuals in our school prepared to help you if you or your child face challenges getting to school regularly or on time. We promise to track attendance daily, to notice when your child is missing from class, to communicate with you to understand why they were absent, and to identify barriers and supports available to overcome challenges you may face in helping your child attend school.
We miss your child when s/he is absent, and value your child’s contributions to our school. We hope you will join us in ensuring regular attendance and strong two-way communication!
