As a proven leader with an in-depth knowledge of educational equity, she firmly believes that by setting the bar high and providing strong supports, all students can achieve at high levels.
Dr. Gonzales is a proud product of Arizona schools, graduating from Ray High School, earning her Bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University in Special Education, her Master’s degree from Northern Arizona University, and her Doctoral degree from Arizona State University in Educational Leadership and Policy Development. Her career in education began in 1988, and she has been actively engaged in public education ever since. She served as a special education teacher, school principal, district director, and area school superintendent prior to assuming the role of CGESD superintendent. She taught courses in Multicultural and Bilingual Special Education at Arizona State University, Leadership in Special and Inclusive Inclusive Education at the University of Kansas, and also directed a federally funded non-profit organization tasked with helping school districts across the U.S. narrow achievement disparities.
Dr. Gonzales currently serves on the Boards of the Arizona School Administrators Association (ASA), the Arizona Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents (AZALAS), Achieve Pinal, and the Kiwanis Club of Casa Grande. During the Spring of 2020, she was honored with the ASA Distinguished Superintendent Award.
As she has from the beginning, Dr. Gonzales continues to welcome community members to ask tough questions. She knows it is a sign that the community is engaged, and this engagement is what the District needs to deliver on its mission of “Success for Everyone, the Responsibility is Yours and Mine”.
