Hello! My name is Julie Holdsworth, the proud principal of Mesquite Elementary! I take pride in the positive, caring school environment that we have built in our school. Decisions are based on what is best for students.
I have been an educator since 1987. I have a BA and MA from the University of Northern Iowa in elementary education and an MA in educational leadership from Northern Arizona University. I taught in Iowa, Kansas, and Arizona, and also worked as an instructional specialist and teacher on assignment. I have worked for CGESD since 2001 and the honor of being Mesquite’s principal since 2013.
I’m a transplant from the Midwest; born and raised in Denison, Iowa. I grew up on a farm and enjoyed playing school, so it was only natural that I became a teacher. When not at Mesquite, I like taking care of my home or going to Flagstaff to visit my daughter Melanie, who is now in college. I enjoy walking Willie and Reggie, hiking, going to the movies, shopping, and exploring Arizona.
My favorite subject to teach is writing, and I love reading to students to help them see how authors use words to express their thoughts. My goal is to always do what is right for students, knowing that all children can learn. I love inspiring others to learn and to have a positive outlook.
