The Casa Grande Elementary School District consists of 9 elementary schools and 3 middle schools and serves almost 7,000 students.  The school district serves an area covering over 400 square miles. 

Our mission is straightforward:  “Success for Every One – The Responsibility is Yours and Mine.”  Our track record shows that we do an exceptional job of fulfilling this mission.

Through the many diverse and challenging instructional programs we offer, and through our ongoing training for teachers and other staff, it is our goal to constantly improve the quality of schooling that students receive. The CGESD has established a strong record of improvement on statewide achievement tests and is recognized statewide as an effective model of continuous improvement.

Text Box: In addition to the core curriculum of Reading, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies, other subjects available to students include Gifted Education, Vocal Music, Visual Arts, Physical Education,  Spanish, Computers, Chess, Mock Trial, Percussion, Advanced Percussion, Brass, Concert Band, Mariachi Band, Pep Band, Wind Ensemble, Woodwinds, Yearbook, and Science Olympiad. Each grade level adheres to an instructional calendar in Reading, Mathematics, and Writing that is designed to ensure that all students learn the Academic Standards, and students are regularly administered District assessments to monitor their progress.  Students that do not demonstrate proficiency on key skills receive additional instruction, while those who demonstrate proficiency participate in enrichment activities intended to extend learning.  Intervention classes are also provided in Reading and Mathematics for learners that need more time and instruction in order to master basic skills in these disciplines.

What do parents have to say about our schools?

Each spring, parents are afforded the opportunity to provide feedback about the quality of schooling that students receive in our schools. As shown below, ratings of the schools are very favorable.  For the past 13 years, over 96% percent of parents have rated their child’s school as an “A” or “B” school.  We work hard to earn parents’ confidence and value their support and involvement.  We strive to work hand-in-hand with parents to provide high-quality learning experiences and a nurturing environment to every student.

1.    Disaggregate Data

Use student test scores to identify instructional groups.  Identify weak and strong target areas.

2.    Develop an Instructional Calendar

PDCA Instructional Model

Develop an instructional calendar to ensure that students have learned the standards by the time they are tested on the standards in April.

3.    Teach

Deliver instruction using the instructional calendar.  Focus on teaching the standards using researched-based practices, and employing the core reading, math, and writing programs.

4.    Administer Assessment

Checkpoint, Benchmark, DIBELS, TerraNova, AIMS

5.    Reteach

Provide a specific time to reteach non-mastered target areas.  Regroup at grade levels as feasible.

6.    Enrichment

Provide a specific time for enrichment for students who mastered the target areas.  Regroup at grade levels as feasible.

7.    Spiraling

Provide ongoing review of skills taught throughout the year to improve retention. 

8.    Monitoring

Principals are to be continuously involved in the teaching and learning process through monitoring of classroom instruction and performance on DIBELS, checkpoints, and benchmarks.
